On the 3rd October 2006 7 year 12 pupils went to Ballykinler Army Training Barracks for the Schools Army Challenge. The 7 girls where: Lisa Crowe, Chelsea Crawford, Vikki Mckeown, Sheena Mann, Rachel Beattie, Melissa Irwin and Rebekah Kirk who was the substitute. The day was a very educational day and taught us a lot of skills and it gave us an experience of what army life is like.
During the course of the day we had to complete 4 tasks. Before going to the army barracks we had to put a presentation together, it was about why war broke out in Europe after World War 2. We learnt team working skills whilst doing this which would pay off during the course of the day. This was one of the tasks that we had to complete. The other tasks were a skills task, an assault course and a non leadership and a leadership task. In the skills task we had to break the code and follow the instructions it gave, which included a run to find a car and had to put the wheel on the car. The assault course we did was the assault course that training soldiers have to do, this is where we needed teamwork to complete the course. The other task we had to work as a team as well and come up with a solution to get a map and then we had to fix a bike which had been dismantled.
All of the tasks that we had to complete were all timed and we had to try and do it in the quickest possible to beat the other schools. On the 25th October we got invited to Palace Barracks, in Hollywood to attend the prize Giving, unfortunately we didn‘t get placed but we all received a certificate to say that we took part in the day. All the girls enjoyed the day and thought it was a good experience, it taught us new skills and give us an insight to what army life is like.
