With over 60 years of teaching experience between them, last June saw the departure of three well known faces from the English corridors of the Girls Model.

Opting for early retirement, Mrs Toogood, Mrs Metcalfe and Mrs Kershaw leave behind a wealth of experience and grateful pupils… Mrs Metcalfe also leaves her daughter Miss Metcalfe, to carry on the family‘s good work.

All three teachers have left an indelible mark on the school as they have all contributed to many areas of the school life.

Mrs Toogood

Who could forget having sat in Mrs Toogood‘s ’A Level‘ English classes and her passion for John Keats (he‘s a poet by the way!) or her inimitable ’filing system!‘ (Her desk littered with marking and textbooks) or her Oscar winning performance as the headmistress in ’Grease‘?

Mrs Kershaw

Who also could forget Mrs Kershaw‘s dramatic, inspirational teaching or the time she made pupils cry hysterically when she told them there was a disease in the school and no-one would be allowed home for a week?! Who also could forget her magnificent performance as the wimp, Eugene, in the school production?

Mrs Metcalfe

And then of course, there‘s Mrs Metcalfe whose hairstyle is legendry (How did she keep those spikes so sharp?) and, who could forget that directors voice booming at all the budding actresses and dances during rehearsals for numerous school shows such as Rock Challenge, Joseph and Grease?!

Au Revoir

Indeed, we are saying Au Revoir to three stars of English and of the stage whose commitment, professionalism and fondness for the pupils of our school, has been second to none.

We wish them all well as they go on to new and exciting adventures. All three have already been out walking and lunching together and hope to travel extensively.

All three will indeed be surely missed but if you look very closely you may see Mrs Toogood‘s and Mrs Metcalfe‘s spirits walking the corridors as each will be ’visiting‘ us for 2 ½ days a week!
