The Taste and See event held in St. Georges Market was not about tasting food but about jobs and Careers for young people to choose from and to find out new jobs that people wouldn‘t have thought of or heard of.

St Georges Market was set up with lots of different stalls all with a different job or career to choose from. The majority of Year Nine pupils went to the event and where given a sheet to find out the different jobs.

These questions were asked to all the people running the stalls and every single person had different answers because even if some of the jobs were in the same places like a hospital, as the most common jobs are a doctor or a nurse but there is much more such as:

• Catering assistants - making food and drink for patients
• Call Handler - Who answers our 999 calls
• Drivers - driving ambulances and getting transport supplies
• Gardner -looking after the plants and shrubs at the hospital.

These were just some of the jobs on offer in a hospital that you wouldn‘t think of!

The most popular stalls were the hospital stalls because they gave lots of information and demonstrations and everyone could join in. Overall, I felt this was an interesting and good experience for all year nines.

On Wednesday 9th February, Year 9‘s went on a trip to St. Georges Market for a taste and see, careers event. There were lots of different types of stalls showing a whole range of jobs in the Hospital, Royal Mail and much more. It let you see what each of the jobs involved. I really enjoyed the day!
