To continue our ICT Specialist school programme, we are working alongside a number of the local primary schools allowing them to develop their use of ICT within their classrooms. Providing this support and resources allow the teachers to put into practise their existing skills as well as finding and developing new teaching resources. Mrs Watson and Mrs Stuart, throughout the year, will be working alongside Carr‘s Glen, Malvern Primary, Currie Primary and Our Lady‘s Primary.
Carr‘s Glen Primary
Over 60 P7 pupils have attended GMS every Friday since September and even though they have very busy schedules with their transfer tests they enjoy a walk in the fresh North Belfast air down to the Girls Model. Mrs Stuart is eagerly awaiting the pupils to teach a variety of lessons based on Spreadsheets using MS Excel.
”The pupils are a pleasure to teach and are always extremely enthusiastic about ICT, even when then have to do some maths using spreadsheets. I look forward to teaching some of these pupils in the future within the Girls Model. I would like to thank Mrs McConnell and Mrs Quinn for taking time out of class to allow these pupils to attend our school for the ICT lessons“. Mrs Stuart
Not only have the pupils got to improve their data modelling skills, they have also practised their mathematical calculations as well as their ability to graphically represent data. Well Done - very impressive!
Malvern Primary
After a successful course last year with the P4 class, Mrs Stuart will continue with the P6/7 class later in the year. It is hoped that the pupils will complete a course using MS Excel or MS PowerPoint.
Currie Primary
The pupils from Currie Primary have been developing their skills using Microsoft Publisher and will create a Calendar based on a Victorian theme to illustrate how much they have learnt. The pupils are really enjoying the lessons and they are highly motivated. Mrs Watson says they are a real pleasure to teach.
Our Lady‘s Primary
Mrs Watson is also working with 18 pupils from Our Lady‘s to complete the Internet Proficiency Scheme run by Grid Club. They are learning about how important it is to stay safe online and having lots of fun at the same time.
”The pupils are very polite, hardworking and continue to develop their knowledge and skills on a weekly basis. They have shown great enthusiasm and interest in ICT and are very keen to learn everyweek!“ Mrs Watson
