Student Voice is a new programme that allows pupils to openly express their opinions about the school and issues affecting it. The aim is to make the Girls Model more open, friendly and keeping pupils at the centre of their education. It allows pupils to become actively involved in many aspects of the school allowing their opinions and ideas to be recognised and, where possible, used. The pupils will also be given the opportunity to work alongside many of the teaching staff making decisions that can make a difference.
There are many different areas that the student voice team will be getting involved in and representatives of each of these areas will actively be involved in the school council. They include:
· Art
· Sports
· School Magazine
· Orchestra
· Charities
· Paired reading
Student voice gives the pupils the opportunity to get involved in school life and hopefully will allow them to take ownership of their school. It is hoped that in the long term behaviours and attendance will improve.
Currently there are Year 14 pupils who have been allocated leadership roles, however, positions for representatives in the following areas will be as follows:
Arts Club
Leadership: Rebecca, Janine & Emma
Within the art department there is a need for assistance during the after schools clubs. Pupils interested in this role should have a keen interest in developing art within the Girls Model as well as skills such as team work, commitment and enthusiasm for the subject.
Sports
Leadership: Lauren & Rachel
Within the PE department they are looking for pupils who enjoy sport and have good leadership skills. They will be required not only to participate within the sports, but there is a need for those who can organise events well such as top link and dreams and teams. The posts available within the PE department include house captains, house officials, and games officials.
School Magazine
Leadership: Megan & Hannah
We are looking for girls who are good at ICT, enjoy working with computers and have good interpersonal skills. If you feel you fit the position and would like to improve in both your reporting skills as well as your ICT capabilities then application forms are available to join the student voice school magazine team.
Charities
The role of a charity assistant will be to work along side Mrs Thomas throughout the year to help organise charity events and come up with fundraising ideas. This requires organisational skills as well as a good imagination for those inventive fund raising events.
Music
Leadership: Alyssa, Stephanie, Emma
There are many roles within the very busy music department. Firstly to assist the orchestra we need a team of girls who will assist younger less experienced musicians with reading and learning their music. We need pupils with experience in sight reading, playing musical instrument as well as being reliable and confident.
There are many more roles involved in the student voice, these are just a few. Please do not hesitate to contact any of the Year 14 pupils mentioned if you required any more information.
