Performing Arts is a growing subject within the Girls Model with many budding stars finding their feet and developing their music, dance and drama skills. Being the first year of the A2 course, there was much preparation required for the new school year and expectations were high for the performances - we were not disappointed.
The pupils study Edexcel Performing arts and complete AS in year 13 and A2 in year 14. For both years, a requirement for the pupils is to plan and take part in a performance and this year, our year 8-10 pupils were delighted to be part of the audience for these exam performances. On 7th December it was the turn of the year 13‘s to perform and nerves were high, but the audience thoroughly enjoyed an excellent show with a variety of acts. To start the show, Samantha Balmer and Joanne Porter demonstrated their acting skills with a sketch entitled ”Tea In A China Cup“. Setting a high standard, Sarah McIlveen-Wright had to follow this with ”Natural Woman“ which was a lovely performance, her vocal coach would have been proud The dancers completed the performance with Justin Timberland ”The Way I Are“, with Miss Willis joining in. The girls completed the show with an impressive choreographed dance, demonstrating their obvious talents and flare for this area of the subject. The audience were left wanting more, which is an excellent reflection on the girls commitment and dedication for performing on stage. Well Done!
Even though the year 14 pupils had performed last year many times, there was still excitement and adrenaline back stage, all preparing themselves for their exam performance. This performance took place on 10th December and from the first note, the quality was evident from the outset. Stephanie Watters demonstrated her vocal skills by singing ”Popular“ from the musical Wicked accompanied by some other members of the year 14 class as well as Mrs Cruise and Emma Finley. Stephanie continued her performance with singing a Blue Tree song ”God‘s Plan“, this time she was joined by the rest of Model Rock. This included Emma Finley, Jessica Willis, Alyssa d‘Hulst, Kerrie Davison and of course Mrs Ashe. This was a professional performance - I think Blue Tree would have approved. Emma Finley then performed ”Golliwog‘s Cakewalk“ as a piano solo - a beautifully performed piece of music. Alyssa and Jessica completely changed the mood with a drum duet performed on 2 drum kits. These girls have developed their percussion skills every year, but this was simply perfect. The performance was rehearsed to the final beat and their mastery of these instruments was evident. The year 14 show finished with the dancers, Natasha Brown and Lauren Whyte performing ”All That Jazz“, which concluded a professional performance.
