Preparations for this show began as far back as 3 years ago, when the production team were discussing what shows we would like to do. It has been the dream of the Music department to put on ”The Sound of Music“ whilst they had such a fantastic group of musicians and singers in the school. This year turned out to be the perfect year to do it!
Our current Year 14 performing arts pupils are an exceptionally talented group of girls who we knew were more than capable of playing challenging key roles in this show, both on stage and behind the scenes.
However, when it came to auditions for the cast, we discovered even more talent throughout the school than we had anticipated! Due to the number of girls who successfully auditioned, we felt we had to cast two ”Von Trapp“ families, in order to give them all a chance to perform in the show! We felt that we would like to have boys involved in this show, so we also auditioned some recommended Boys Model pupils and much to our delight we found two wonderfully committed and enthusiastic young men to take on the roles of Captain Von Trapp and the youngest son in the family, Kurt. Dancers and stage crew were then recruited and rehearsals for drama, singing and dance began in October.
As the pupils began to learn and rehearse their lines, their songs and their dance steps, behind the scenes, set and props being bought, made or borrowed; scenery was being painted; costumes were being created; and teachers were losing sleep! As the shows loomed closer, the rehearsal schedule grew more frequent and more intense! Nerves began to heighten and a little bit of panic set in!
However, all the hard work by all was once again worth it, as we managed to put on a great show each night which was thoroughly enjoyed by all who came along to watch! The pupils performed to their best, I‘m sure Andrew Lloyd Webber would have been proud, and they had a wonderful time doing so! Well done to each and every girl and boy involved, I‘m very proud of them all!
I‘d like to thank everyone who helped with this production in any way, no matter how big or small their role! Producing a musical is a huge team effort and everyone played their part fantastically in creating a really successful show. Thank you to all involved!
