On Thursday 7th of February 2008, six girls, one boy, one cheesecake lover and one curry complainer set off on a journey to the lively city of London. We arrived in London and went in search of our coach which would take us to our hotel. The driver introduced us to the city life as we embarked on a journey through the West End and our eyes were dazzled with the blinding lights of the many theatres and cinemas.
We checked into the hotel late at night, left off our bags and had our first tube ride to China Town where Miss McCosh realised that there‘s a huge difference between N.Ireland curry and proper Chinese curry.
Our second day started off with a trip to Shakespeare‘s Globe Theatre where we experienced the life of Elizabethan England as we walked round the exhibitions and interacted with the activities provided. Our eyes were dazzled by the costumes and props that lined the walls of the exhibitions, which aloud us to have a clear understanding and insight on how they lived during the Elizabethan period. We left knowing a lot more about the world of Shakespeare than we did before. After this we travelled the underground to arrive at Harrods where Mrs Crawford went in empty handed and returned half an hour late loaded with bags. We headed back to our hotel to get changed for our night on the town. When we were ready we ran for the tube in our heels, but Mrs Crawford was too slow probably due to the weight of her ’HUGE‘ Tiffany ring. We arrived at Planet Hollywood just in time where we enjoyed our three course meal. After this we travelled in style aboard carriage bikes called ’Rickshaws‘ to the Theatre where we watched Blood Brothers. It was great to see a play being preformed live on the stage. There was a great atmosphere in the theatre. We retuned home later shoe-less and tired from all the excitement of that day.
We woke up to a bright sunny day ready for shopping at Covent Garden and the famous Oxford and Bond Street. We all shopped till we dropped- especially Mrs Crawford- AGAIN! But as the day drew to a close we had to board the tube and head back to our hotel and pack our bags. As the sun was setting we bid farewell to London and headed for the airport. As we waited for our plane we looked back on our weekend of fun, laughter and in Mrs Crawford‘s case, food! In three days she consumed three cheesecakes, many packs of crisps, one doughnut and a mighty Chinese while still maintaining her figure- lucky her!
As we drew near to Belfast we all missed London but Miss McCosh couldn‘t wait to get to her nearest Chinese to order, in her opinion, a proper curry!!
We would like to thank Miss McCosh and Mrs Crawford for such an unforgettable trip.
