The English department celebrate Roald Dahl Day
Monday 22nd of September saw the start of an extremely hectic week for the English Department here in the Girls’ Model, as preparations were made to celebrate the ever popular ‘Roald Dahl Day’. Book and film review competitions, quizzes and a character treasure hunt ran throughout the week for all pupils, while junior English classes were put on hold so that they could recite revolting rhymes, cook up disgusting recipes and create horrible and hideous characters. It was also noticed by pupils that quite a few English teachers were making attempts throughout the week to perfect their Miss Trunchbull impression, if only to terrify the new first years!
Roald Dahl Day itself was celebrated on Friday 26th September, and to mark the occasion, all year 8 and 9 pupils were invited take part in the day’s festivities. Shouts of ‘Snozcumber’ and ‘Wonka’ could be heard up and down the corridors as pupils were in frantic search for clues for the character treasure hunt, while Room 23 was a hub of excitement and activity as the ‘Roald Dahl Day’ Party was in full swing. Pupils were treated to party snacks and drinks while games, puzzles and quizzes were played, DVDs were shown and grizzly and grotesque granny cards were being lovingly designed!
By the end of lunch, Room 23 was an unrecognisable wreck, (and Miss McLaughlin a bit worse for wear!), but it was thoroughly agreed by all who attended to be worth it. A fabulous afternoon was had and preparations are already underway for next year’s celebrations, which should be even bigger and better!
Congratulations to all the competition winners and a big thank-you to Miss McLaughlin’s Year 12 ‘Oompa Loompas’, who were a great help with the activities and with cleaning up after all the chaos! We will hopefully see you all next year for Roald Dahl Day 2009!
