On Monday 12 January 2009 we held our last ever Transfer Evening for Primary 7 pupils and parents in our old school. It seems funny calling it the “old school“ but that it is what it is now that our brand new school is due to open in January next year. Over 400 P7 pupils and their parents packed into the Central Hall to hear about what the Girls‘ Model can offer and then they were escorted around the buildings by a knowledgeable and enthusiastic band of Year 10 and 12 prefects. In every room or teaching area they visited they were able to see a wide range of activities and they were also able to participate in many interactive workshops and presentations across all the subject areas. As ever the Model pupils involved were fantastic role models for the school and all the pupils and staff who were present must be congratulated for their time and effort. Hopefully everyone who wishes to come to the Girls‘ Model next September can be admitted and we look forward to the next cohort of Model girls coming through the gates initially of the ”old school“ but also the gates of the ”new school“ from the second term onwards.
The new school is very exciting and it is amazing how quickly the building has risen from a green field last March. Already 90% of the external building is complete and we are well on line for our deadline of starting to move everything across next December. Whenever you think of all the facilities we are going to have such as a massive Sports Hall, Performing Arts Theatre, Fitness Suite, Dance Studio, Electronic Village, Creche, Hair and Beauty Salon, Library, Synthetic Pitches and Running Track, Media Suite, Conference Room, Cafeteria, ”state of the art“ classrooms and study areas to name but a few, then it really brings it home how lucky we will be to have one of the best equipped and aesthetically pleasing schools in the whole of the uk.
