Formal 2009

This year‘s school formal was yet again another fantastic night for all staff and pupils who attended the celebration at the Ramada Hotel in Belfast on the 12th February 2009. All mothers cried as they saw their daughters dressed up and looking lovely and wished them a brilliant night away. Around 200 boys and girls from both model schools arrived at the Ramada Hotel in fabulous limousines, hummers and even the Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine! The girls wore beautiful dresses and the boys in handsome tuxedos, were talking with the BBC, getting their photos taken and most of all, having fun.

All students and staff then sat down to their three course meal that consisted of vegetable soup for starters, a lovely turkey and ham dinner, then finished off with pavlova with fresh cream and strawberries. Mmmmmm! After the meal the traditional awards ceremony took place. Many teachers were awarded with great bunches of flowers to thank them for helping out with the formal arrangements. Other awards were handed out to pupils that were shocking, funny and made many laugh. Some of these awards were ’Pimp of the Year‘ which was awarded to Ellen Hearst, ’Biggest Geek of the School‘ that was awarded to Head Girl Rebekah Kirk and there was even a ’Who‘s been tangoed?‘ award that went to Samantha Balmer. Many other awards were also presented that will give these pupils something to always look back on and remind them of what they were like back in their school days!

The professional pictures were taken throughout the night, while some pupils chose a cosy seat at the bar or danced the night away to the fabulous band, ’The Untouchables‘. This band has now entertained the past three formals and is sure to continue their entertainment for many more formals to come. They performed all kinds of music from Footloose to Superstar and many, many more.

As both staff and students danced the night away, the Formal soon came to an end. The Untouchables packed away their staging and coaches were filled with students who couldn‘t wait to get to the after formal held at Morrison‘s to party to after 3:00am! Overall this year‘s formal was a fantastic night for everybody. For some it‘s their last year and I am sure they made the most of their big night.
