We decided that a sixth form magazine would be a good idea as the audience for the magazine would have similar interests to ourselves. We decided that we would give out the magazine free of charge and our income would be generated through third party investment from companies such as Bombardier, Northern Bank, All State Technology, etc. The name was the hardest thing to think of, as we wanted something catchy and what others would remember easily. After brainstorming we came up with 6FM which stood for sixth form magazine, but the bubble was burst when we discovered 6FM was actually a radio station! After further discussion we decided on FM6 which represented Form 6.
During the creation of the magazine, we sold fifty £1.00 shares, each of the schools involved raised £75.00 each by fundraising events. The cost of 7 coloured pages for advertisements was £75.00. However, as Queen‘s University had run this programme they agreed that they would print the magazine for free in exchange for advertising space in our magazine!
If we were producing another edition of this magazine, we would create an online e magazine as it would be easily accessible for all sixth year pupils. It would have a wider target market and it would be environmentally friendly as no paper would be necessary. I have really enjoyed this course and getting the opportunity to see the end product, I would love to go back and do it all again!
