Head Girls

By Dr A Davidson

This year as usual we had a very difficult task selecting the head girls. After teacher and pupil nominations were totalled, twelve year 13 prefects were short listed. Each of them wrote profiles of themselves which went up around the school. The whole school was involved in voting for their favourite! Then came the interviews with a panel of six, four teachers and the current head girls. The two girls who were selected were Carla Johnston and Megan McDermott. We want to congratulate all twelve girls who were short listed and who all contribute so much to school life, and especially Carla and Megan who will lead the SVLT next year.

Since being appointed Head Girl, I have enjoyed in taking part in organizing the Formal which involved looking around different hotels, deciding menus, flowers and layouts. I also assisted with the Primary 7 Pupils who will be starting school in September. I have also enjoyed meeting new people and working with others in the team. Next year I am looking forward to moving into the new school and also improving my leadership and communication skills through student council and student voice with all of the year groups throughout the school. I‘m also looking forward to meeting new people through the work that Megan and I will be doing next year.

So far I have enjoyed being Head Girl as it has invovled lots of roles that I enjoy doing and can cope with. After being appointed Head Girl, Carla and I along with the boy's visited different venues to hold the 2010 formal, we had to decide where it was going to be held, if any colours were going to added and favours for people to take away with them. Carla and I have also introduced ourselves to the new incoming year 8's. This all has been a great experience so far. For the incoming year I am looking forward to working with the rest of the Student Voice Leadership team, building relationship with Teachers and Students, moving into the new school and seeing the results of all our hard work on the night of the formal.
