Transition
The transition teachers have had yet another busy year working in the local primary schools. By the end of this year the Girls Model we will have worked with over 20 different primary schools and delivered over 1500 programmes to the pupils and some of their parents. The programmes we offer cover a variety of areas including drama, P.E., music, ICT, First Aid, numeracy, literacy and after schools clubs. We try to tailor each programme to suit the needs of the school and can work with individuals, small groups, classes or with the whole school, so every day is different!
Some of the things we did this year include a school Christmas play with Springfield Primary and a pantomime of Cinderella with Grove Primary School. We provided numeracy and literacy support in several schools and an ICT club, a choir, a girls‘ club and a performing arts club after school too. The PE teachers went out into the primaries to deliver dance and games sessions and the specialist school delivered several varied ICT programmes included taking many children through their CCEA accreditation in ICT.
One of my favourite things was to have a group of Primary 3 and 4 children come to the Girls‘ Model for a story-telling session. I thoroughly enjoyed this as I love telling stories but some girls from Year 8 alsoo came along to read out fairy tales that they had written for the class too. This is something that we hope we will be able to offer other schools next year. We were also really pleased to have the Year 6 girls from Springhill Primary school come along to take our anti-bullying week. The girls performed a short sketch and then sang a song about caring for our junior assembly.
Next year we are planning to offer some more programmes to primary schools and hopefully these will prove to be as popular as the ones we already have on offer.
