Amazing Achievers

Art and Design

Top students at GCSE are Chantelle Johnston and Caroline Cochrane both with A*. Both girls performed extremely well to achieve this excellent grade.

Caroline‘s work included some very creative jewellery design based on lilies, which was colourful and imaginative. She also worked in a fine art manner to create a range of photographic outcomes based on puddles and reflections.

Chantelle‘s work showcased her delicate detailed drawing skills, in projects where she studied masks and also in her delicate pastel studies of flowers influenced by Georgia O‘Keeffe. She created a most imaginative fashion piece influenced by beaded jewellery, which shows her creative abilities in three dimensional thinking.

Both girls are continuing their Art studies at A level.

Jo-Ann Porter‘s creative A level work earned her a grade A. Her Art work ranged from photography to colourful prints based on the Victoria Centre dome to fine art sculpture based on the human form. She was equally skilful in her use of textile techniques in depicting flowers as she was in her ability to draw. Her creative mind and hard work will be great assets to her as she is currently at the University of Ulster continuing her Art studies.

Business Studies

Congratulations to all pupils who received results in August 2009. Overall the results for both Business Communication Systems and Office Administration at GCSE Level were terrific. 82% of pupils who undertook the Business Communication Systems exam got an A - C grade. 83% of pupils who studied Office Administration were awarded with an A - C grade. Well done also to all those students who achieved a Level 2 Certificate in Business Administration, we would like to wish them all the best for their future employment. These results are excellent and all pupils should feel very proud of their hard work and determination. We would also like to welcome back all 6th Form pupils who are undertaking the one year Business Administration course or the BTEC National Award in Business.

Media Studies

Zara Mackay wooed the GCSE examiners with her fantastic radio production to achieve a high grade A in her final exam and achieve 1st place in the class. She is a true media mogul. Look out for Holly Foskett, another Media star in the making, who stunned us all with her TV advertisement, also achieving a grade A at GCSE and ranking 2nd place in the class. Move over Sir Alan Sugar and Rupert Murdoch, there are new media whiz kids in town!
