World wide known photographer Julian Germain came to the Girls Model to capture photos of Mr Mercer and his class that would belong in an art gallery. Mr Mercer took part in the project titled “Classroom Portraits”.
This project, run by Julian began in schools in North East England in 2004 and as it became successful opened up to schools all over UK in 2005. Now this project is up and running through schools in North and South America, Europe and the Middle East.
Julian’s photography has been described as allowing others to “remember our own schooldays and wonder what happened to our own classmates. By presenting different pupils, different schools, different year groups, Germain asks questions about contemporary educational practices and social divisions”. Numerous other schools have taken part in this project and Mr Mercer was delighted to follow in their footsteps. It is fair to say that they enjoyed their experience and especially loved posing for the camera!!
The Girls Model would like to thank Julian for taking the time to come in and talk to Mr Mercer and his class.
