In geography class with Mrs Fitzpatrick we have been learning about the environment and the harmful things we are doing to destroy it. The environment is the place where we live and we need to take very good care of it. Global warming is causing many problems. Global warming is caused by the green house gases. These green house gases are natural – and keep our earth warm. The problem is people are contributing to an increase in these gases that is causing the earth to heat up too much!
Over the years, because of the increase in pollution caused by burning fossil fuels and using too much energy there has been an increase in the greenhouse gasses which means that the earth is heating up too much. Global warming is very important to everyone because in years to come animals will be coming extinct, the ice caps will melt causing flooding, there will also be more severe hurricanes and storms!
What can we do help? Well…we can recycle many of our products at home and in school. Don’t waste energy by leaving windows or doors open in your house because you are wasting oil by letting the heat pass through your house and you’re not catching any of it. You can even switch off electricity and gas when you don’t need them.
What have Mrs. Fitzpatrick’s class done to tell people to stop wasting so many things? Mrs. Fitzpatrick’s year 10 classes have made posters some will be up around the school telling you to save the earths resources, and some are up outside the geography department. 9D, 9E and 9M have written letters to Mr Milliband the environmental minister asking him to address the issue of the evironemnt at the World summit meeting in Copenhagen. We have also made consequence posters that you can see up in the Geography department showing the effects of using too much energy.
Our message - Take care of your environment and everyone else’s.
